Digestive Health

Irritable Bowel Syndrome seriously interfered with work and my social life. With Marie’s guidance and with acupuncture, I have seen major shifts in my digestion and my stress level. My experience is like night and day.

Do you find it difficult to go into nature on a hike for fear of being away from a restroom? Do you have difficulty arriving on time to work or meetings due to your digestive issues? Is the unpredictability and discomfort of your digestive system getting in the way of your happiness and living life to it’s fullest potential? Acupuncture, herbal medicine and changes to your diet and lifestyle will help to shift this experience and help you to take back your life. In fact, when our digestion is strong, this gives us a strong basis for all other systems to operate more efficiently, including nervous system function, hormone  balance and mood.

Modern society has us moving at a fast pace. In order to keep up we may not always make the best decisions to support our digestive systems. In some cases, we think we’re doing the right thing by espousing a popular healthy diet. In other cases we haven’t been given the information that we need to support ourselves or we’re making a slow recovery from poor habits of the past.

I came in for pain. Stayed for the stress management. Awesome side-effect: my energy and digestion are stronger than ever.

Chinese Medicine sees each person as an individual. This allows me to tailor a specific acupuncture and herbal treatment for each patient. The same is true for the food that we eat:  There is no one diet that is right for all persons. For example, some people do well on a raw food diet while others are better served by eating simple, cooked soups. Every food that we eat has an energetic temperature and action that creates a physiological impact on the body. This is great news because we can actually use our diets to heal ourselves as we do with herbs. For people who are already on the right track but still struggling with digestive complaints, herbal medicine can help to bridge the gap between past habits and new ones.

I look at each patient holistically:  How are all body systems functioning? What are the diet and lifestyle contributions? What is the role of stress on your digestion? I consider the whole person, mind, body and spirit when treating any complaint. When the digestion is strong, all other body systems operate more effectively. This means that no matter the complaint, nutrition and lifestyle are addressed with my patients.

There is no need to let digestive discomforts keep you from living life to it’s fullest. Whether your complaint is constipation with painful hemorrhoids, unpredictable irritable bowel syndrome or painful ulcerative colitis, a combination of acupuncture, herbal medicine and diet modifications can get you back on track.

In addition to acupuncture and herbal medicine, I support each of my patients with an individualized nutrition and lifestyle plan as well as qigong exercise prescriptions.
